July 31 Cant sleep....Cant sleep.. was going to knit.. but to tired... was going to take pictures of knitting.. to tired and to dark.. so I figured a good moan would do the trick then I can go to sleep.. probably be to tired to do even that. hehe...
Okay seriously though I sorted out me armhole and placed it in the right postion like a dork I put it in the wrong place, one set to far over and was to lazy to sort it out at the time, so I marked off the right set of stitches and opened up the hole and closed off the old one! I also opened up the other armhole and tried it on, OMG! Its looking GREAT!!! And people at www.getknitted.com are SOOOOOOOOOOO brilliant! emailed them first thing this morning and they got back to me this afternoon saying they had the Cascade 220 in the same dyelot that I purchased last week or the week before (I cant remember! Im that tired!) so I ordered 3 hanks JUST IN CASE! and will be posting off the payment for those in the morning... Maybe thats why I cant sleep? to excited... I didnt do to much else today... Looked at sock yarn but decided not to buy any..... you know I hate knitting socks... but I love the look of knitted socks, I got the Nancy Bush Folk Sock book and got part of one of the socks knitted but I lost my DPNS I was using and that socks been thrown in the plastic tub anyways....
Right Ill get pictures of the shawl in the state its at tomorrow... thats if I wake up and dont sleep the day away.. yikes! Im so happy getknitted are so friendly and SPECIALLY that they have the same dyelot left.... I suppose as it is just the arms had they not had any left I would have been alright.. :) Still peeved that I have to buy MORE! I shoulda checked a swatch.... but seriously could I be THAT off??? I dont think I could be! Oh well it looks great anyways I was wearing it around the house in its half finished state today, Mark got a good giggle at me as Ive shown this to him over the weekend, (I was finishing it up and then once it was finished on sunday) He doesnt get the thrill from it as I do but he still laughs at me being a dork.... and thats cool with me!
Goodnight, sleep tight, sweet dreams off to TRY and sleep now...... STOP!Thats what was yelled at me yesterday when I finished the edging of Madeline.... Why? Because I have so little yarn left Im not even going to atempt to knit a sleeve! Im NOT impressed. I had 150 yards MORE yarn then I should and Ive ran out of yarn... I will have to recheck my gauge, I swear last check was checked cockeyed.... anyways Ive sent an email asking about same dyelot and hopefull they do have 2 more skeins. 440 yards should knit two sleeves if not Im ripping it all apart and making osmething else! Okay I wont but it would force me to question it! :)
So while Im doing that I am working on my cabled sweater..... its coming along slowly I think Ive knit something like 12 rows since yesterday evening.. not much! But after finishing the jacket body and knittting 4 rows on sweater I became tired and actually didnt WANT to knit.. this morning I woke up and knit a further 8 rows on the sweater and drank coffee...
I will knit more this afternoon but checking email and trying to find out about the extra 2 skeins I needed has became slightly more important.. I just want to finish my jacket... I want to wear it while sitting on the edge of the bed in our air conditioned bedroom! hehe
Ill give some pictures later... promise... July 27 Got stuff?I got Rowan Knitting and Crochet 39 in the post today! WOO HOOO Won a copy off of ebay and it turned up this morning, was rather excited to have a look at it and cant wait to do a couple of the patterns from it! I think there are something like 11 in there I wouldnt mind doing, so for 7£ for 11 (if I do all 11) patterns arent bad, okay so theres something like 40 in the entire book but some are just how to put it politely, not my type!
Also today while I was in town posting off for a vinyl for Mark I went to tescos for shopping and ended up buying a book Gods Callgirl by Carla Van Raay. It sounded interesting so I got it.... One woman's incredible jhourney from the convent to the massage parlour..... I dont know if it will actually be that good but sounds like it could be so I got it...and anyways in my opinion you can never have to many books!
knitting update is that Im just over half way on the edging around the jacket. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will be working on the sleeves, but who knows! today I slept in late and have yet to do any knitting, Ive only moved it from one spot to another to another without actually knitting a single row. So soon as I finish this quick update Im off to knit... like now! :) July 25 Edging ever so closer....Ive knitted a couple more well actually more then a couple, but still not enough of the edging. I think Im getting quicker as well only because I have memorised what to do so Im not looking to count. :)
Anna wanted to know if I was getting gauge with my Cascade 220 that I bought to knit the jacket with. Well as I am an unpatient person I just took for word that it was a aran/chunky yarn to begin with. Without a wash I get the stitches but Im a row short for rows and its a 4 st by 9 row per inch over garter stitch gauge. I figure after I wash and block it Ill be alright, a little stretch in the lace areas wont hurt it... I hope! hehe... It looks big enough as it goes right now to be honest so I am sure Ill be alright with it... I know really I should swatch to make sure I make gauge but Im impatient! :)
The other thing I did differently then what the pattern suggest is I didnt start out with 5.5mm dpns I just went ahead and have done it all on my 6mm needles becuase it never gives you an exact point to switch over I figure it didnt really matter all to much, and if it did, perhaps that will make up for my row count being out? I doubt that one, but we can all pretend it will yeah? :)
I bid on and won Rowan 39 over the weekend and I cant WAIT to have that turn up as there are a couple of things I would LOVE to knit out of there! :) Hopefully that should turn up some stage this week, or early next... Im not overly fussed as I have this jacket to finish AND my cabled sweater.. I havent given up on that one its just sat to the side as I got overly excited about the jacket. :) July 22 Picture of edging so farAfter all the headache from yesterday and the near to tears of frustration I was able to sort out the edging with the help from the girls at UKHK with their advice and with me saying I was going to just knit it seperately and then attached it and going in to start that then realising that in fact I was doing it correctly just reading the chart the wrong way around as I assumed by starting with number 1 and going right to left thats how it was meant to be read, and it still might and for some reason I may just have ended up on the wrong side every time, thats possible as well! but now I just read the pattern backwards and everything is coming along wonderfully! As well as I now know what she (the designer) meant by k2tog at the end even though there wasnt one shown it is so that your edging is attached and no need to sew it on! THATS GREAT! :) so just loads more to do around and then I get the joy of doing the arms!!! :) I cant wait!!!
Heres a picture of the edging, ignore the plastic wire going in the ends its just to hold them there for picture sake! :)
July 21 Sorted!Cheers to UKHK for putting up with my tantrum listening to me rant and giving ideas! Ive got it sorted and reckon I was reading the chart the wrong way because once I reversed it all it seems to be adding up better and that makes Jenn a happy knitter... and knitting once more has become relaxing... SO GLAD i didnt hit this point earlier in the week I would have taken sissors to it! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Pictures to come when I get some more knitted to show off... WOO HOO!!! Call for HELP!!!!HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPP
I screamed loud enough didnt I??? I hope so! Alright I was going to wait until I got a edge square thingy or two knitted before showing, but screw that idea! I cant even get one done!!! HELP PLEASE!!! Above photo shows, 1 Left hand needle (start of sweater) 2 where the connection to the sweater is made (will become clear below) 3 stitches from edging that are somehow ment to go on LH needle 4 Right hand needle it just sits there looking pretty... Now here are the directions, mind you I have already done this 4 times and have decided that Im going to beg for help now! Edging: Leave jacket body on circular needles as holder, remove marker, and invidibly cast 16 sts onto LH needle. Begin Chart B over 16 sts, working last k2tog using 1 st from edge lace and 1 st from body of jacket. what all sts have been worked from body, graft live sts to cast on edge.
Alright heres me problem, I have no idea how to k2tog using the lace edge and a body edge when THERE ARE NO K2TOG NEAR AT THE EDGE!!!!!!!! alright that out the way, How in the world am I supposed to graft the friggin live stitches to the body (LH needle) when its going to twist and look horrible and it should be flat (check pics in previous posts) Someone please help me! Im serious has ANYONE ever knit this bloody jacket????????? July 20 Its coming together nicelyAlright I dont have any pictures to show because Im to dang lazy to grab my camera and take some! But Im nearly ready to start the edging of my jacket, Im way excited!!!
I finished all the garter stitch and am working on the mesh rounds got like 2 more rows to go and thats sorted then its the edge, that along may cause headache trying to understand, but by golly Im gonna do it!
The weathers been lovely, sunny, hot as can be, beautiful, sunny, no clouds to be seen.. and whats going to happen tomorrow? Clouds! Rain! Thunderstorms! HEAT AND THUNDERSTORMS! YUCK YUCK YUCK! Okay I can do heat, well kind of... I can do heat till it gives me a headache and makes me sweat *nasty*... But I dont do humid heat, and lets face it, thunderstorms at 29c is going to be humid horrible heat.... I may just melt like the wicked witch, that is if I dont stick to every bloody thing I touch first! HAHAHAHA
Back to knitting catch you all up with some pictures tomorrow of the knitting. :) July 17 Progress picsThats a closeup of my back thats what I did on Thursday minus the garter stitch edge...
What it looks like so far badly pined to the floor and on a 5.5mm and 2 6mm circular needles... The pattern calls for a 40 and a 60cm 6mm circular needle, I am using a 60 and an 80, I could probably go and get a 100cm 6mm circ and be happy with using that as well.... But I just like room to see what Ive done and thats the first time in all its glory Ive seen it... looking really good if I say so myself! hehe... love the flower star thingy for the middle of the back as well.. :) Just wanted to post those pictures quickly... :) WHAM!.....Here I was zooming along on my jacket, ever so proud of myself at the speed I was going when I hit a brick wall and I think I may have hurt myself... well my brain anyways! HAHA
First off lets start by saying on Thursday I went into town and bought my needles, well another 6.5mm circ. I took them and went to claires and bought some pretty hair bands for stitch markers, Im cheap what can I say! HAHA, anyways, I then went to Costas got a big hazlenut late, YUM! and sat down grabbed my pattern and my wool and my two circs and started knitting. I sorted out the whole lets use two circs as dpns all on my own, how proud of myself was I? VERY! The first time I screwed it up rather badly (2 rows in) but the second time I did it, I was sorted and there I went speeding along and didnt stop until yesterday! By the end of Thursday I had the back lace like panels completed and was ready to move on to the plain body. Friday when I woke up I knit and knitand knitted some more around and around in an ever growing circle did I go. Didnt finish to the arm holes so I worked some more on Saturday, knitted 2 rows to many so I unpicked those Sunday morning then came to an ubrupt halt. Im stuck at the armholes! Ive emailed my knitting group that I am in, UKHK, and I got two responses one sounded nearly right, and one said email the designer.. hmm OOPS! didnt think of that one so I emailed the lady and hopefully at some stage today I should get an answer in the mean time I shall knit on the cabled sweater I was working on before. :)
Not to completely dismiss the helpful answer that I did recieve from the group, as I was trying to go to sleep and was havent fits of yarn and needles going on in my head I had a thought that perhaps I am supposed to put the armholes in sections 1 and 4 (2, 3, 5, 6, 7 lay as is)... I dont know! I just could not, and still cannot picture, nor work it out I just know theres supposed to be two armhole openings and Ive finally gotten it in my head there is, but I at first read it as only one HUGE one was supposed to be there! HAHAH
Now I am off to drink my coffee and grab my sweater and work on it, as I have lovingly ignored it for the shawl jacket that I so desperately want to finish and wear and show off!!! (okay in 30c heat there wont be much of that but still!!) July 12 ITS HERE!!!!Okay Im SOOOOO excited!!! This was my first ever purchase of yarn online and from this company! I ordered some mags from another online store and was SOOOO NOT impressed with the time it took nor with their customer service, I should have known when it took nearly 2 weeks to get an email answered about if they had a mag in stock or not.. So anyways I ever so happy with this company and will so go back again...
GetKnitted, you should go there and order from them!! I ordered Monday sent my payment first class and got an email Tuesday morning saying my orders already been shipped!!! Now today I waited and I waited for our post man who was late, Im sorry but our postman turns up no later then 8.47am. I assumed that perhaps the order was delayed by Royal Mail as lets face it they arent always the quickest. But we have a new postman I do hope hes just a stand in for our other one whos really nice and always on time! So at 1.13pm after Ive given up hope the door bell goes and who should it be but the postman!!! With a gift just for ME! Shame Mark werent around with the camera Im sure I looked like a little kid with their first icecream I actually tried ripping it all open until I realised no amount of pulling would help I needed some sissors to cut the tape! hehe
Right on with the pictures I here you shouting...
My package in all its glory resting its tired body against the pillow..
After I found out what a pair of siccors are for and neatly laying them out on the bed against the pillow to have a look out the window (which you cant see but trust me it is there!)....
A close up of the yarn (100% Purvian Highland Wool) I find it lovely to feel and squish! also the "Icey Blue" shawl pin I bought to close it all up with... Its wooden and its painted, its nice and I think looks lovely against the black! :) ..... Two gifts that I have to say shocked/surprised me, I love pens! I rarely use them but I love knowing I have them laying around so this will be well loved, and a nice vanilla candle with Calm wrote on it. thats already sat on the desk here with me (not lite but sat here none the less!)...
Heres the picture of the front/side of the jacket and the cover page for the pattern oh my heart sure did skip a beat when I seen it, I dont care how "different" Mark thinks this is Im totally smitten with it! :) .....
And what I couldnt find, suppose really I didnt look all to hard, is what the back will look like. The pattern is sent to you as a print off/photo copy I suppose, but you know what I dont care! I got it from a ligit source so I know that everyone got what they were owed... But I have to go down the road later and make a photo copy for myself no way am I messing up the orginal.... no sir-ee bob! I love it tooooo much already!
Now tomorrow I will go to town buy the needles I need as I know I dont have any the size needed around here... I use small needles this calls for 6.5mm (if I remember correct)... So to sum it up I am VERY HAPPY!! It turned up MUCH quicker then I expected and I will order from them AGAIN and AGAIN! Im all about supporting your local shops but when you live in Luton with 1 shop that loves novelty yarns, RYC, Jaeger, their fav is Sirdar. Mind you some of the stuff they sell I love, shoot thats the shop thats pretty much kept me knitting for the last year! I will always buy my needles from them as I dont see why I should pay shipping when walking down the road I can get em now! But anyways thats how it goes and OOOOOO IM SO HAPPY!!! July 10 I went a shopping tra-la-laSo Ive knitted some more on the sweater... 5 inches in total... Alright so it is slightly slow, but its growing!!! And its making me happy. I am getting excited even though I have LOADS more on it to knit. But hey Im on the front of the sweater... errr okay lets make me depressed, I still have the rest of the front and two sleeves still to go, ugh!
Italy won the world cup last night! I watched most of the game but missed the two goals that were scored, caught them on the replay during half time though. Dang dinner getting in the way. :) But I watched the game and the penatly shoot out and seen Italy win. I said before they played Germany in the semi final that I would love to see them win. Of course I did wain a slight bit while France played Portugal.... But hey can you blame a girl who isnt a complete football freak *yet* I have a feeling its coming.... Rather I like it or not I enjoy watching the games lately.....
Today I went to GetKnitted and bought 5 balls of Cascade220 in black a shawl pin in "icy blue" and Madeline Shawl Jacket from White Lies Designs Ive been looking at that jacket for a couple of weeks now since it was put on their site and I FINALLY decided to make it mine. I showed Mark last night the picture of it and his response was "its different" Im not sure what that means because when I said I was thinking of making it in Chocolate Suffle he laughed. As you can see I changed my mind and am making it in black instead... Perhaps if I REALLY REALLY love the jacket Ill make it in a couple of colours. HAHAHAH.. http://www.whiteliesdesigns.com/patterns/lcardigans/141.html
for those that are to lazy to go looking through GetKnitted for the look of the jacket just click the link takes you to the jacket on WhiteLiesDesings site....
Oh yeah, I went to Primark the other day (they finally have one here in Luton WOO HOO!!) so anyways I went in and picked me up a brown messenger style bag. Its massive and PERFECT to hold my knitting in. I used it this weekend and at the moment my knitting is being held in it. I took it to town with me when I had to go down today as well because I had to go to the post office, but sadly I had no time to knit the line for once was really short and I waited about 2 minutes.... But it is the perfect size, and for 5£ who can complain? So really if you fancy just getting a bag to drag around your knitting pop in and pick one up. :)
Now Im off to drag my knitting back out of the bag and knit a couple more rows. :) July 07 Random story and rant...I have been a bit boring the past couple of days by not doing any knitting, instead I have been reading Forever Odd by Dean Kontz. I read the first one Odd Thomas and enjoyed that one, so when I went into tescos last week and spotted this one of course I had to buy it and eventually read it. Just I read it sooner then I oringinally thought I would. But it was good because this morning when I picked up my knitting I actually knitted rather quickly, but then that might have also had to do with the fact that I have pretty much got this pattern down by heart and I was listening to VH1 becuase its rock month so Ive been rocking along to that... :)
Anyways, in the football Italy beat Germany, and for some reason this made me happy, I didnt want Germany to win, who knows why! And then on Wednesday I sat there and actually watched the entire 90+ minutes of Portugal and France match. And I am happy to report that France won. After Portugal being a load of crybaby football players who got England kicked out by getting one of their best players sent off Im glad that they lost! That and from watching them perviously I was just appalled that grown men could play like that, considering that little boys (and girls) look up to these guys as their idols and yet they play dirty, want to fight, fall to the floor, and show VERY bad sportmanship Im sorry but that just makes me sick. Yet I think Im starting to enjoy watching the games! YIKES! Will I ever agree that grown men should behave the way some of them do? Not a chance! But I have other issues with other people as well that are meant to be looked at as idols... but we wont go there. :)
Funny story, well to me anywasy! Yesterday I was chanel surfing, taking a break from reading while having a couple sips of coffee. So anyways here I was flicking around and came to ITV2 and Ricki Lake was on there. Now I used to watch her show ALL the time when I was still in school but then something happend that they pulled it for a while eventually they put it back on air, I dont remember what it was... anyways what made me stop and watch was there was this lady on there and I sat here scratching my head trying to think why and how I knew her... all of a sudden I busted out laughing and pointed to the tv saying But thats, thats, and then her name came up on the telly and Ricki goes "So Yolanda..." and I stopped listening because I couldnt stop laughing. Here I am sitting in England, never expecting to see anyone that I went to school with back in Cincinnati Ohio, and there smack on tv, is a girl that I went to school with. She was on there for being gehtto and have a gehtto hair weave and getting a makeover. Am I proud that I went to school with a girl showing up on Ricki Lake, honestly, I dont give a crap! But boy did I get a good laugh out of it. Didnt surprise me either! I always found her to do crazy things, and so thats just one of those things that seemed like shed do when I seen her.... Shes looking good as well.... got older but still looked the same, and seemed to act like the same Yolanda from school.... I didnt catch the begining of the show and only seen the end..... When I told Mark about it, he just laughed and looked at me like I was crazy and said "really? GREAT" in that very sarcastic way of his... Like I said it was funny to me. :)
Off to go and knit and lead my crazy (okay not really but still) life of mine... :) Hmm maybe Ill order some more yarn offline thats a bit crazy. heheh... July 04 Purl 2 Cable 4So how do you turn this
^^*btw, that is pretty close to the actual colour there or at least on my screen it is*^^ Into this? .... A picture of the finished back
And here is a close up of the cabled area. :) And here is a close up of the lace edge. :) This is how
By following a pattern that was making me want to pull my hair out at first! I kept making stupid mistakes.... but so far so good on the like 12 rows Ive knitted on the front... :) I finished (finally) the back on Friday and thats all Ive been able to knit over Sat, Sun, Mon, not alot really... I should be further but Im not... So England lost sad really as so many people had such high hopes for em. This is this, its a game, people win people loose, your lifes not going to end just because they lost. Though trying to tell some people that over here may just get you killed. HAHA... Andrew Murray got knocked out of Wimbeldon yesterday as well... Timmy boy got knocked at at the begning so now not only are the english upset, but so are the scottish... hmmm.... BTW, Happy 4th of July! |
